In the past few years the zero waste movement has grown beyond many people’s wildest expectations. Zero waste cities have begun to take shape all across Europe and around the world. But how does a city even begin to implement a zero waste programme?

Zero Waste Europe have released the Zero Waste Masterplan a modular, step-by-step guide to zero waste on a municipal level. This resource breaks down the seemingly complex process of putting zero waste into practice into straightforward modules. The Masterplan document is accompanied by videos demonstrating the effectiveness of zero waste strategies for cities

Ferran Rosa Policy Officer for Zero Waste Europe and a coordinator of the Zero Waste Cities project said “For several years now, we have seen municipalities leading the way for zero waste best practice. We want to make the process for taking your city towards zero waste clearer which is why we have created the Zero Waste Masterplan which gives clear guidance to cities who want to take on this challenge”.

In this video zero waste expert and Chair of the Zero Waste Europe scientific committee, Enzo Favoino explains the extraordinary case of Parma, Italy and how the city reached over 70% separate collection.
